The Idea Behind Beyond The Bar-B-Q

Updated: Sep 24
I've always enjoyed cooking. For me, it's been my retreat and something that brings me pleasure. From grilled peanut butter, chocolate and banana sandwiches as a kid to Yankee jambalaya as an adult, I have always tended to cook a little bit outside of the lines.
As I've grown, I've enjoyed experimenting with recipes that I have compiled from various sources over the years. Old cookbooks, different websites and old family recipes have come together and in some cases morphed into a completely different dish than originally intended.
These different sources and the enjoyment that I get from cooking on the stove, baking in the oven or smoking out on the smokers is the reason this site is called "Beyond" The Bar-B-Q. This is not just about Barbecue here, it's the idea that good food brings people together. Anthony Bourdain had it right when he said, "You learn a lot about someone when you share a meal together." I hope that you can use some of the information you may find here to learn more about some of the people in your life. I know that some of my best times have been spent feeding a lot of my family and friends.
I hope that you'll come along for the ride.
